Movie Review

I recently watched the Punjabi comedy film “Kitty Party,” directed by Nav Bajwa and released on December 13, 2019. The movie revolves around the lives of five middle-class housewives living in Chandigarh, who share a close-knit friendship and enjoy their routine activities together.

The story primarily focuses on their weekly kitty parties, where they engage in games like tombola and contribute money to a committee. However, their lives take an unexpected turn when one of them encounters a woman from Goa on Facebook. Intrigued by the promise of doubling their money, they decide to invest a considerable amount, hoping for a profitable return within 30 days.

As the deadline approaches, the women find themselves unable to locate the woman from Goa. Frustrated and determined to retrieve their money, they embark on a journey to Goa. This sets the stage for a series of hilarious and chaotic events, showcasing the unique characteristics of Punjabi ladies from different regions.

The film features a talented ensemble cast, including Kainaat Arora as Jasmin Kaur, Gurpreet Ghuggi as Cheema Saab, Nav Bajwa as Sunny, Jaswinder Bhalla as Gurjeet Singh Bhalla, Upasna Singh as Kulwant Kaur, and Rana Ranbir as Kuku Pardhan. These actors bring their distinct flavors to the table, infusing the movie with a lot of comedy and entertainment.

Despite the promising premise, “Kitty Party” falls short in execution, primarily due to weak songs, an underdeveloped script, and a lackluster storyline. The film fails to capitalize on the potential of its concept, resulting in a disappointing cinematic experience.

In conclusion, “Kitty Party” may not live up to expectations as a comedy film. While it showcases the camaraderie and humor among Punjabi women, it suffers from poor execution and an uninspiring narrative. I would recommend exploring other Punjabi films that offer a more engaging and enjoyable experience.
